Earth Day with the Master Gardeners of North Alabama
On Earth Day, the Master Gardeners of North Alabama volunteers led by Project Leader Al Hess planted the traffic triangles located at the intersection of Williams Ave and Lowe Street. Since 1995, the Master Gardeners have kept this downtown intersection beautiful throughout the years planting spring and fall color designs.
Adopting Miles
The Edwards are members of the Morningside Homeowners Association. The association has adopted a mile of Bailey Cove road from McGucken Park to Green Cove Road. The Edwards also pick up litter along the Aldridge Creek greenway. WAAY To Go Green!
Bicycling to Work

Huntsville is a bicycle friendly city. Greg Dukeman and Randy McFarland use our bicycle friendly roads to commute back and forth to work each day.
Greg's commute is about 20 miles a day while Randy's is around 22.
MGNA's Adopted Spot
The Master Gardeners of North Alabama(MGNA) maintain the triangles and median at the corner of Williams Ave and Church Street. They plant seasonal color beds in 2 traffic triangles and the center median. The MGNA is the largest Master Gardener association in the state of Alabama.
Cleaning Cecil Ashburn
Spring City Cycling Club (SCCC) members Vern Gibson, David Stone , Mike Bayler, Mathew Bucca, Geanine Lehmann, Barry Mathews, Dan Kruvand, and Sharon Bayler recently picked up litter on Cecil Ashburn Drive. The cycling club normally picks up about 10 to 15 bags of litter 4 times a year on this road.

Your waste can have a new life
David Edgemon recycling his household waste at the SWDA facility. The Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Huntsville/Madison County holds a household hazardous waste collection at their facility on the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon.
Mt. Gap Elementary reusing plastics
Mt. Gap Elementary understands that plastic containers can have more than one life. They are reusing plastic containers donated by Dunagan, Yates & Alison Cosmetic Surgeons for organizing school materials in the classroom.

Steve Carter, Manager of Fleet Feet Sports knows exactly what to do with those old shoes. When Fleet Feet receives worn shoes they will check them out to determine the condition of the shoes.
Depending of the condition of the shoes they will either be recycled or given to others in need.

WAAY to be GREEN
Founded in 1977, Operation Green Team was originally known as the Huntsville Madison County Clean Community Office. It is a city-funded organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. This board meets monthly to plan strategies and projects aimed at accomplishing its goals and objectives, which center around education and beautification efforts, maintaining a sustained litter reduction, and improving waste handling practices in the community. Operation Green Team endeavors to make Huntsville a role model for the state, region and Nation in terms of landscape beauty, cleanliness, and environmental consciousness
Operation Green Team is affiliated with Keep America Beautiful, Inc., which is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving waste handling practices in American communities. Through this affiliation, Operation Green Team is able to offer curricula that teach our youth how to manage the waste we produce, intelligently and responsibly.
Operation Green Team's Coordinator and mascots are available for appearances at schools, youth and organizational events, or corporate events. Contact our office if you or your group would like to become part of the team.
